Chelsea 2 – 0 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS
21 Mar
Hart – Got a hand to Luiz’s header but couldn’t prevent and was helpless for Chelsea’s second goal. Wasn’t as busy overall as he might have expected. Distribution better than in recent matches - 6
Richards - Coped well with the threat of Malouda and Cole down the left but it was his daft mistake that cost us the first goal. There was no need to make that challenge on Luiz near the touchline, yet Micah went for the ball, missed and the rest is history - 6.5
Kompany - An absolute rock at the back throughout, coping with Torres, Drogba and Anelka. Blocked shots, won headers and used the ball well. Didn’t deserve to be on the losing team - 8
Lescott - Continues to look like the centre-half we signed from Everton. I’ve been greatly impressed with Joleon recently and he produced another solid performance yesterday. Ramires beat him too easily for the second goal, but other than that, he was a rock - 8
Kolarov - Fortunately for us, Chelsea didn’t attack a great deal down their right so Kolarov’s defensive capabilities, or lack of them, weren’t exposed. However, his “challenge” to stop Ramires for the goal was disgraceful. Got into a few crossing positions but wasted every one of them - 5
De Jong - Without him, Kompany and Lescott, we would have been run through. Put in his usual selfless stint, winning tackles, making interceptions, keeping the ball. In the first half especially, I thought he was magnificent, and although he tired towards the end, it was a good showing - 7.5
Y. Touré - Started the game brightly, linking our midfield and attack well. Took too long on the ball on occasions, causing our attacks to break down, but continued to do his best. In the second half however, it was back to his usual self. Didn’t make much of an effort at closing down or supporting Džeko and offered us nothing. The one who needs the break the most - 6
Barry - Tried his best but lacks the pace and dynamism at the highest level. It was too easy for Lampard, Ramires and Essien to bypass him, but he kept on working and managed to put a few tackles in - 6
Milner - Except for his end product, I felt Milner had a good game. Worked tirelessly on the right to support Richards in coping with Malouda and Cole. Managed to break free down the wing a few times, but could find his men with a cross - 7
Silva - Worked as hard as I can remember him doing, helping out Kolarov down the left. Was cultured in possession, always looking to move the ball on quickly but wasn’t as delicate or as creative as usual. Still looked like our best bet to conjure up a goal though - 7
Džeko - Still adapting to the English style of football and fans should not get on his back, bearing in mind the short amount of time he’s been at the club. At times in the first half he held the ball up well, but became isolated later on. Looks quite gangly and uncultured but I’m sure, given time, he will be fine - 6
Subs
A. Johnson - Brought on late in the game and put over one half-dangerous cross - No time to mark
Balotelli - Introduced as soon as we went behind, but didn’t make a huge impact for once! Created havoc in the Chelsea box with one headed knock-down but nothing really came of it - No time to mark
Can u please tell me how Lescott was worthy of being mentioned in r top 3 players shud Chelsea not have had a penalty for his supidity everyone nos that wen u block a cross u shud have both arms as close to ur body as possible yet Lescott continues to have his arms waving around wen blocking crosses then there was his half hearted attempt to stop Ramires wen he got the 2nd goal for me he was worse then Micah and i think hes gettin to much credit hes always running to the newspapers moaning he needs to get his head down and keep improving im not a fan of Lescott but he needs to learn a little from Kompany hopefully in the next couple of Seasons Dedryck will b ready to partner Kompany in the centre of r defence otherwise spot on maybe Silva shud hav a 6 but it was great to see Vince the Prince given the captains armband
City was lucky not to get penalized with the Lescott’s hand-ball. It was a clear cut penalty. I believe Lescott will do very well against any premier league team except Man utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs. Unfortunately, when it comes to world class teams, he falls a bit short. And this is where the difference between a very good player and a world class player becomes very clear. Boyata is a great prospect considering his age. People who come out of our Academy would tend to give it all whole-heartedly for the Club as opposed to mercenaries like Tevez who do it out of professional duty and do not hesitate to screw their clubs. Important ones to club should be those to whom the club is important and off course they play well
I’m a fan of Boyata but he’s not the right person to play at the moment. We all know what happened when he was thrown into the game against Arsenal. That has knocked his confidence greatly. Lescott is showing his best form for us since joining.
I rate Boyata better then Lescott. He got sent off he would have learnt from that and the more he plays the better hes going to get Lescott is big and for a big guy he aint been that great in the air this season espec when defending
I see your point there and his late appearing in the last few games suggest efforts on his confidence building which is great. As JoshMCFC mentioned in another comment. Our two signings from Humburg [Komapny and De Long] have been absolutely outstanding and the signs so far do not suggest otherwise for Boateng as CB. But he is being wasted either on the bench or playing out of position
Jeromes not played many games espec not wiv VK at CB so i would giv that a try jus to c how they do u no wot Kompanys like he will help Jerome unlike Kolo or Jolean VKs a true leader and as long as Jerome listens to him theres no reason y he cant b VKs partner at CB
Agreed with you View From A Blue, Boyata is not quite ready and shows frailties.
Frailties that Jolean doesnt show? he could have easily conceded a penalty against Chelsea he did concede one at Wolves for a stupid challenge on Doyle so can u please name the games he has been good in cos i seem to remember him passing the ball to Giggs in the build up to Uniteds 1st on Derby Day
tbh Lescott wasnt good against Wigan either he let Conor Sammon run straight past him into are box and luckily he put the ball wide otherwise we would have dropped 2 crucial points. Honestly i would start Boyata yes he got sent off against Arsenal but hes 19 and has had some cracking games (United CC, Chelsea) just to name a few and with his tender age it will giv the partnership time to blossom
Joleon has been an absolute rock these past few games and no-one can knock him out of the partnership at the back with Vinnie, he has been unbelievable Mr Lescott if you are reading…keep up the good work
We’ll c how gd he is wen Hernandez rips the clumsy prick to shreds in the Derby
