After the disappointment of the Champions League comes the challenge of domestic action. Top of the table by five points, we face a tricky trip to Anfield where a mercurial Liverpool side await. Fresh from victory over Chelsea last weekend, they will look to take advantage of our deflating match against Napoli and it will be a real test of our credentials on Sunday.

We have won only one of the past twelve Premier League meetings between the sides and our defeat to the Scousers last season was arguably one of the worst nights of Roberto Mancini’s reign. It was a thoroughly depressing 3-0 defeat but arguably was the catalyst for our superb run of form towards the end of the campaign. Mancini will be looking for a similar reaction this time around from his players following the Napoli loss.

With regards to team selection, the Italian will have noted how Liverpool pressed Chelsea extremely high up the pitch last week, utilising the pace of the likes of Craig Bellamy, Luis Suarez and Mai Rodriqguez. With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stefan Savic replaced Joleon Lescott due to his greater ability on the ball, whilst Micah Richards and Gael Clichy will both surely return.

Further forward, Gareth Barry can expect to start, as can Sergio Aguero, but Edin Dzeko struggled against Napoli and will drop to the bench. Samir Nasri could replace Yaya Touré if Mancini wishes to freshen things up, whilst Mario Balotelli, having courted controversy all week in Naples, could be a key figure with his electric bursts of pace.

Here is the side Mancini could select:

Manchester City 4-3-3 football formation

As for Liverpool, they possess one of the top quality players in the Premier League in Luis Suarez, although the Uruguayan’s petulance and propensity to dive have made him a hated figure. Craig Bellamy will no doubt be looking to impress against his former club and send a message to Mancini, with whom he had a very public fallout, whilst Dirk Kuyt’s workrate down the right is always eye-catching.

Referee: Martin Atkinson – Has officiated in two City wins so far this season, at home to Wigan and the recent victory away to QPR.

Prediction: Liverpool 11 MAN CITY – I think it could be quite an exciting game and one full of chances. Liverpool will look to press us high up the pitch and exert their authority on the game, though we should have enough quality to cope. Goals to be scored by Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero.

I think it is bench time for Yaya. Savic is not experienced to face Suarez esp his dramatization of his dives which may cost us dearly. My preferred line up would be:

    Hart
    Richard Kompany Lescott Clichy
    DeLong Barry
    Milner
    Silva nasri
    Aguero

Liverpool away still strikes me with fear…one of our ultimate bogey teams/grounds from the past.

Have to disagree with the notion of playing Savic. In any case I actually think Lescott is edging Komps’ at the present. Barry to replace De Jong, Sergio to replace Dzeko and Richards & Clichy to start…basically the side which should of started in Napoli.

Always dread a visit to Anfield but we should have the confidence to bounce back convincingly.
I would start: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Milner, Barry(De Jong), Yaya, Silva, Dzeko(Balotelli), Aguero(Nasri).
Media, doubters etc expect us to be rolled over easily. I think a 3-0 win with Milner, Aguero and (sub)Balotelli on the scoresheet.

“3-0 win..!!!”; against one of the strongest defenses of the league this season (with Skrtel, Agger) and that too at Anfield. Do you even know the meaning of being realistic ‘tregyblue’? Kindly go and have a cold splash of water on your face; it is the time to awake my friend.
