5 Things You Should Know About Marcos (Rony) Lopes
5 Jan
After making his debut today and scoring with virtually his first touch in a City shirt, here are a few things you ought to know about Marcos Lopes:
Although he is known officially by City as Marcos Lopes, he is more commonly called Rony. Having been born in Brazil, along with his family he moved to Portugal when he was four and when he started to attend football training with his first club, he always used to wear a Brazil shirt with Ronaldo on the back. Over time, one of his coaches shortened Ronaldo to Rony, and the name has stuck ever since.
This is a late birthday present for him, as he turned 17 just over a week ago, on 28th December.
He’s a left-footed attacking midfielder, comfortable out wide or through the middle and often plays on the right-wing, adept at cutting inside and shooting from distance. Despite his size, he’s not one to shirk a tackle. He’s a fiesty competitor.
His favourite musicians include Chris Brown and Luan Santana.
One of his favourite television programmes is the Portuguese version of Big Brother.
