MAN CITY 1 – 0 Wigan – PLAYER RATINGS
18 Apr
Hart - Made one superb and crucial stop to deny Di Santo, racing off his line and spreading himself well - 7
Richards - Great to see him back after such a lengthy absence but it had the feel of a rushed return. He looked unfit, struggling to offer an attacking outlet down the right and he switched off at the back. He can only improve his match fitness by playing but this wasn’t an impressive comeback - 5
Kompany - Wigan’s passing was pleasing on the eye but Kompany was rugged defensively, determined to stay close to his man. He was authoritative in the air and looked comfortable in possession - 7
Lescott – Produced one excellent goalline clearance to keep the scores level and seemed sharp to any loose ball. Nastasic, as an all-round package, offers more, but Lescott would be a loss if he were to leave in the summer - 7
Kolarov - Bombed forward as he so loves to do but as is usually the case, his final ball was woefully lacking. Opted to greedily shoot a couple of times instead of cross and when he did put the ball in the box, it was often overhit and wayward - 5
Garcia – Conceded a foul due to his poor positioning and gave the ball away in a dangerous position within the opening minute but thankfully settled down. Put a few blocks in but it’s evident he’s painfully one-dimensional - 6
Barry – After a pair of outstanding displays against Manchester United and Chelsea, this was a calmer affair for him, but he was still our best midfielder. Mopped up in the centre and moved the ball on quickly - 7
Y. Touré - Deployed in his more advanced role but spent much of the first half receiving possession from our centre-backs. That made the whole game extremely congested and it is only when he moved forward a touch more after the break that we looked to carry a threat - 6.5
Nasri - For perhaps the first time this season, Nasri was looking to be involved in the play constantly, coming deep to receive the ball, driving forward with it and looking to create. Alas, he didn’t have the guile or ingenuity necessary but it was refreshing to see him take responsibility - 6.5
Tévez - The only City player who looked like making the breakthrough. His workrate was terrific, his link-up play superb and he was lively throughout on the edge of the box. In a dour match, he produced the one moment of magic to secure the points - 8
Aguero - It was baffling he started considering how exhausted he was against Chelsea after an hour, and his hamstring injury which looks set to rule him out of the fixture versus Spurs at the weekend was no surprise. Offered a threat with his pace in behind Wigan’s backline but either the service to him wasn’t good enough or his first touch was lacking - 6
Subs
Dzeko – Wasted our best chance of the second half and otherwise had little impact on proceedings - 5
Milner – Put over a couple of tempting crosses - 6
Sinclair – Mancini ought to have introduced him earlier to provide some sort of pacy, wide spark - No time to mark

spot on with the marks. I think Richards is a great player and expect him to come back strong, but his performance was horrible, he was barely able to try getting forward, I was just stunned mancini didnt replace him sooner. I was worried he would get another injury as he just didnt look ready for the game. Kolarov… the commentators were saying he was the only one who looked lively in the first half and I was so suprised at how impressed they were with him. If we sell anyone this summer I hope its him. and Tevez was immense the whole game, thoroughly deserved his goal, and was even 8.5-9 for me. glad we got the 3, Wigan played well for passages, but they need to be clinical with their chances, fortunately for us Lescott and Kompany were solid.
>>Kolarov… the commentators were saying he was the only one who looked lively in the first half
You can put me on the pitch and I would promise you that I would also look lively through my runs [though I am passed my prime]. Kolarov absolutely lacks end product over 99% of time esp considering the 16 million pounds paid for him [Clichy cost 1/3 of that], he is an absolute waste. I would personally take Joe over him because at least I would not see Joe on the pitch in EPL games.
I absolutely love Micah, and I think he is a key player for City in the future, but it was his first game back in 6 months and so of course he didn’t play well. I think Mancini missed him a lot this year, especially because of the ability to play a 3 back with Micah.
I think Nasri was our best player in the game yesterday as he was always on the ball and finding little pockets. Best player is very relative though, as I thought it was a weak performance by us
I have to say on a personal note, I did my knee ligaments in September and didn’t play for 6 months. Its amazing how you lose even the basics like touch and awareness never mind fitness, confidence and sharpness. And this is at an amateur level, cant imagine what that’s like at the standard of the premier league, in short I would read absolutely zero into Micah’s performance, he will be back.
I do agree with you as I twisted my knee last year and ended up with a swollen ligament and had to take 5 months off. I could barely run when I got back!
Yeah exactly, no point in reading into it. Micah is a beast of a defender. Just needs more time. I love the way he bombs forward too. Looks so threatening. Can’t wait to have him back to full strength. I’m suprised he’s able to make any appearances this season.
For God’s sake, or Allah’s, or whoever you want…….please get rid of Garcia, Kolarov and Nasri. The end.
