Hull v MAN CITY – The PREVIEW: City’s Probable Team
26 Sep
After starting in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday, Willy Caballero could remain in goal for this weekend’s fixture. Pablo Zabaleta sat out the 7-0 romp through suspension, but there may be a temptation to keep him on the bench with Tuesday’s Champions League encounter in mind. Gael Clichy will presumably step in on the left of defence.
Fernando, Samir Nasri and Stevan Jovetic remain sidelined, but Frank Lampard could keep his place in the side following his recent goalscoring exploits. Manuel Pellegrini has declared David Silva and Sergio Aguero fit, but if he wanted to give them a little more rest before the Roma game, they could both start on the bench. Edin Dzeko notched his first goals of the season in the Capital One Cup and he can expected to lead the line.
Here is the side Pellegrini could select:
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Prediction: Hull 1 – 2 MAN CITY – Wednesday night’s comprehensive victory will have injected plenty of confidence to a side that had not previously won in four games. It will obviously be a far tougher encounter against Hull, but with the strength in depth of City’s squad, there should be enough quality to grab the three points. Goals to be scored by Dzeko, Aguero and Jelavic.
Well VfaB, that’s a very ‘un-Pellegrini’ and ‘un-City’ like lineup, but it makes a great deal of sense to me.
Resting Merlin and Kun, benching them, obviously means that 2 of our 4 ‘go to’ guys are not starting an away game, in the PL, that we simply have to win. But we have a squad of excellent players, and we should use them sensibly, especially when players are carrying knocks and we have a CL absolutley must win game three days later.
Milner is on fire, he has always been much more than the work horse, utility player, that some of his detractors accuse him of being. He has never failed us and in the last 2 or 3 games he has arguably been the pick of the crop. Frankie de Yanqui has been an absolute Godsend, and his form in the last 2 games has borne out all you wrote about his potential, and I like the match ups in the wide areas too. Aleks Kolarov and Samir Nasri
seem to get the best out of each other, Clichy and Jimmy Milner are less penetrative maybe but nobody bosses them and Roma are in the wings. Zaba and Jesus are working very well together and Yaya’s passing game in the No10 slot, his ability to bully from time to time, and his eye for goal makes him a great candidate for that role.
You’ve convinced me boyo
0-3 City
One own goal and who cares who scores the others.

It makes sense to push Yaya on with lampard coming from deep and fernandinho sitting, however knowing Pellegrini I would be surprised if we started that way. I also have gone for 3-0 on sky sports super 6 so the result is in no doubt
We need to cross the ball well if kolly plays nobody crosses the ball better when he sends it over first time. We need to get more men in the box for navas crosses. Against arsenal he sent over 3 or 4 perfect crosses & only Edin was in the box.we need to improve on that. I hope pozo makes the squad. Put him in there I say. This business of players age/resting players is nonsense. Honestly, lampard averaged 50 games a year for Chelsea in 13 years.there professionals, that’s what they’re made to do.
Agree, looks a good shout to me. Suspect Demichellis to start though since The Mangler has played 2 x 90mins already this week. Hull will suit him his game and should be able to outwit the likes of Jelavic.
Is a strong XI indeed but may lack a bit of penetration through the middle; i.e. as opposed to having Sergio and Jovetic up there off him. Hull likely to park the bus even at home. So best bet for goals will probably be to get the ball out to Navas and Milner to run in round the back, and ping balls in to Dzeko with Yaya and Frank hopefully bombing in/lurking around the box. Kolorov to make an appearance at some point to aid in that respect and Silva/Aguero if necessary.
Caballero could indeed start but my gut tells me it will be Hart. Either way will not be a walkover of a game but suspect us to come out on top in the end. Here’s hoping.
In fact wrong on both fronts! Caballero starts as does Mangala.
