MAN CITY 1 – 1 Hull – PLAYER RATINGS
7 Feb
Hart - As with his mistake away at Stamford Bridge last season when he needlessly rushed off his line despite a City defender being in control of the situation, he should have realised that Demichelis was in charge for Hull’s goal. Instead, came hurtling out of his box and never quite recovered - 5
Zabaleta - Involved in the chaos that was the visitors’ goal and looked somewhat troubled all afternoon at the back. It was unlike him that he couldn’t have any impact at the other end of the pitch as we looked to break through - 6
Kompany - A petulant and argumentative day for our captain. Seemed ruffled and indisciplined, despite not actually having a great deal to get worked up by - 5
Demichelis - Didn’t cover himself in glory for Hull’s opener and, as with Kompany, he didn’t quite have the necessary focus. Even his passing, usually so positive and purposeful, seemed slow and aimless - 5
Clichy - Beaten at the back post early on when the away side rattled the crossbar. Did recover to some extent in the second half and showed an urgency in possession to drive us forward - 6
Fernando - Another shaky display as he continues to look ill at ease in the Premier League. Uncomfortable on the ball, he seems to take an extra couple of touches and seconds to move possession on, and he is all too easily bypassed by a simple opposition body swerve - 5
Fernandinho - Yet another who was culpable for Hull scoring, this time with a fancy backwards flick that failed to clear the ball. After impressing so much against Chelsea, this was sadly a return to the ineffective Fernandinho we’ve seen for most of the campaign - 5
Nasri - Gifted a glorious opportunity to break the deadlock in the first half, but tried one turn and cutback too many in the box and wasted the chance. Arguably the most likely City player to create that one moment of magic, but for all his probing, nothing worked - 6
Silva - Quiet and unable to spark City into life. Forced to drop deeper and deeper to pick up the ball in space such was the intense pressing of Hull’s midfielders. Although off form, it was slightly odd that he was replaced with plenty of time remaining - 6
Aguero - Anonymous for the first hour, but then found another level as the game drew to a close. Started running at defenders and committing them, making things happen. Struck the bar late on with a brilliant piece of control and balance - 6
Džeko - Some decent touches in the first half and showed a willingness to run the channels and create options. Drifted out of proceedings after the break, though, and was the first to be taken off - 6
Subs
Navas - Brought a little more intensity to our endeavours. Made the occasional thrust in behind, using his pace to unsettle Hull, but nothing really came of his efforts - 6
Milner - The man of the match last week in the most hyped game of the season, he came to the rescue again this time with his sublime free-kick. Spiced things up with his introduction, making off the ball runs and linking up neatly with Aguero - 7
Jovetic - As he invariably does, tried his hardest to create something, but seemed a touch frenetic and as a result, ineffective - 6
They all seemed to take one or more touches too many! Just too slow. Why not hit the shot or cross first time occasionally? Perfection isn’t 80% possession when most of it’s in midfield.
there’s 42points still to play for isn’t there manuel? no doubt he’ll come off with his usual line.is champions league qualification a formality now I ask? the league has surely gone now after this latest in a long line of disasters at home.i wouldn’t mind but in the name of God burnley,Stoke,Newcastle, cska, and now hull! would make you sick and depressed. hate that team at the minute but love the club lol.
Theres too many wasters at City this year, and the lack of tempo and effort in games is unbelievable! This is not the performance of Champions. Probably 6 players getting a game regularly who are just not good, or motivated enough. A stronger Manager would sorted them out or shipped them out. Dzeko has been a disgrace, and Fernando,Navas, Jovetic and Kolorov are not upto the level required. Sagna was a crazy signing at 31, with Richards at 25 and English already in place! Its not good. Hull, Burnley, Stoke, CSKA, Newcastle, Middlesboro, and losing a 2-0 lead v Sunderland as well, what is happening at home? its alarming that the Manager cant change it, as its been going on ALL season!
100% right mate.
Spot on Pete, but I’d like to add a few comments more, especially about M.P. But first I think the criticism of Joe Hart is out of order. He was not at fault for the Chelsea goal and yesterday’s farce was started by Demichelis passing straight to their man on the edge of the box. Mind you anyone having to play behind Demichelis week in week out must wonder what league he is in and what day it is, the man is a disaster, and always will be for us. Oh I forgot, he did play for Malaga, well that’s alright then. And then as everyone has said TWO defensive midfielders at home to Hull!! Stupid. Silva and Nasri, perhaps two of the most gifted playmakers we’ve seen, in wide positions to start when they are not wide players makes the game too crowded in the middle, especially if our full backs aren’t doing it on the day. Mancini started that and the rest of the league got used to it. It doesn’t work anymore and reduces the effectiveness of those two. So if we had have bought a decent defender, and kept Richards, maybe we wouldn’t need two defensive men central at home to a poor side and could let our creators play as Bernarbia and Berkovic used to do. Yes the team as a whole took too many touches, look slow and lacking motivation. Given the money he’s had the staff he’s got and the facilities available what else does MP have to do except motivate them. He’s got to go.
The Chelsea goal VFAB is referring to was last seasons winning goal and I blamed Joe for that.
Richards was released for the same reason as Rodwell was and Jovetic will be, being unfit through injuries that are imagined. We’ve all worked with people who are constantly phoning in sick with a cold, man-flue, tummy-upset, footballers are no different to anyone else.
Another very poor performance expect big changes in the summer, it’s looking like a big clear out is required. As has here to fore being said our record at home this season is shocking. Its odd that Manuel hasn’t been able to motivate & focus the team, aguero & dzeko were garbage & on on on…… Fill in the gaps, rubbish football at the minute’ I was expecting a big push after last week.
Excellent display away at Chelsea and then another horrible showing yesterday.
For me we have bought very poorly in the main, it would be interesting to know who exactly makes the final decision on who we buy???
This seasons difference will be we bought Fernando, who is decent at best, and Chelsea bought fabregas..
Simple
Not long ago when I pointed to dismal City performance that how bad the team is playing and the fact our bad results represents the reality of our team as opposed to our wins that at least half of it are due to luck … I had got a few to tell me it is the opposite … and our bad results are due to bad day in the office …
Oh well, it seems we had another bad day in the office … nothing to worry about!
Totally agree with Pete and Goatman and, like Lancashireblue, I wonder who is making the decisions to bring in very average players from the Spanish/Portuguese leagues. And why was Milner on the bench? Surely the outstanding player of the year – one of the few who gives 100% effort and who has made Pelli’s decision not to hardly play him last season look
totally bizarre.
If football was politics Demich, Mangala, Navas, Dzecho, Fernando would all be regarded as NFFP ie. not fit for purpose. They need to be got rid of at the end of the season. Bring Richards back for goodness sake. He has already played 10 games for Fiorent. including the Europa league. I have yet to meet anyone who thinks Sanya is a better player. Another bizarre decision! When fit, Richards is one of the best full backs in the world. If anyone disagrees I suggest they look at the matches from 2012. Even Gareth Bale couldn’t get past him.
It’s time for Pelli and his cronies to go! Time to get rid of the overpaid rubbish from Europe that has come in the last two years. It’s time for a clear out and to get in some talented young players.
