Why Manchester City’s new signings will help to win the Premier League

This is post from Celia Worth.
As we all know, Manchester City are the best team in England’s top flight. To those who were naive enough to suggest that City wouldn’t even finish in the top four this season, “ha”. Unlike other clubs, Manuel Pellegrini didn’t panic in the transfer window and has waited until the perfect time to bolster City’s already talented squad. Raheem Sterling was always going to move east down the M62 and, at £49 million, could prove to be the bargain of the summer if he fulfills his potential. However, if City also acquire Kevin de Bruyne and Nicolas Otamendi this summer, they will be clear favourites for the Premier League crown.
For some time, Vincent Kompany has lacked a dominant force alongside him at the heart of City’s defence. In Nicolas Otamendi, he finally has that. In fact, Otamendi is a diamond. Despite constant links with United earlier this summer, Otamendi will be a City player in the coming days. At £40 million, he’s an absolute bargain. The Argentina star was a focal point of Valencia’s success last season and ticks all the right boxes to succeed as a top Premier League defender.
Otamendi is arguably the best central defender on the planet and held a number of season records in La Liga last season, including most blocks and fourth most interceptions. His composed, calming style will certainly ease City’s worries about their inconsistent defensive unit. Otamendi is an exciting defender to watch and, if you’d like to follow his or City’s performances throughout the season, you can access matches via the best live football streams for all leagues here.
Meanwhile, Kevin de Bruyne is reportedly set to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, although that isn’t a done deal just yet. The Belgium star was voted Bundesliga Player of the Year last season and will cost City around £45 million. However, he’s an absolute must-buy. If City pass on the opportunity to secure De Bruyne now, another club will move for the midfielder in January – that’s how talented he is. His raw talent, speed and vision are all attributes that are needed to be a success in the Premier League and, despite his struggles at Chelsea, he will thrive under Pellegrini at City.
Ultimately, City’s new signings will bring a much-needed freshness in both attack and defence to the Etihad Stadium. Otamendi is an incredibly talented prospect and, at 27 years old, he is in the prime of his career. Kevin de Bruyne, on the other hand, has his best years ahead of him and is definitely a worthy investment. With those two players, it’s hard to see anybody finishing above City in the Premier League this campaign.
I hope you’re right, can’t really judge anything while the window is still open, I wouldn’t dream of making any sort of “champions” predictions, its a very impressive two games, nothing more; Chelsea will be feeling the pain this week & arsenal always have the ability to cause us pain. I’m really not sure about a new c.b & kdb, while they might have sound pedigree they are nonetheless unproven in england, the kdb money is way over the top in my opinion ” is he not a bit flakey?? the team looks fine leave well alone’ I still think we need a good left back-goodison park on Sunday will be another tough game, the Chelsea result is history now, on to page three.
It is an exciting time for City fans. And early indications are very postive. Let’s hope it continues this Sunday.
Hoping KDB happens- he is special. He is an all around great player, a player Bayern normally would be after IMO. We’d be lucky to have him, and we will surely not have trouble scoring this season with Sterling Silva and KDB playing around Kun.
