Which City players can light up Euro 2016?

Manchester City are looking to put the European underachievement of recent years behind them in this campaign by finally showing they have what it takes to compete with the best teams on the continent as well as in England. Some big buys in the summer saw them maintain a perfect start to secure an early lead in the title race, and the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne will also be hoping to light up Euro 2016 at the end of the season.
1. Raheem Sterling
Manchester City’s big buy isn’t just the hope for their own future, but also for England. Having seen swathes of promising youngsters fail to build on their early promise, such as the likes of Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones, both club and country will be hoping that Sterling is different. Direct, pacy and tricky, the youngster still needs to add a bigger cutting edge to his play in the final third but is already a hugely dangerous attacking presence. With England set to have some exciting fixtures, including a clash with bitter rivals Scotland in a game that’s sure to be open and high-tempo, Sterling will be looking to make the difference. 2. David Silva
Spain will be desperate to improve after their disastrous performance at the last World Cup, and with the old Xavi-Iniesta duo having passed on as the crux of the team, Vicente del Bosque has been searching for a new plan. David Silva’s continually excellent performances for Manchester City give him perhaps the biggest claim to be at the centre of the Spanish national team – he is the heartbeat of the Blues’ attack and could provide a similar boost for La Roja.
3. Kevin de Bruyne
The big-money summer signing excelled in the Bundesliga, and the decision to sell him looks like a major mistake from his former club, Chelsea. Some early promising performances have revealed the young Belgian to be a hugely versatile and effective attacking instinct, as good at finishing off a move as he is at setting up goals. With his ability to play anywhere in midfield, he’ll be a huge asset for Belgium as they look to prove that they can produce performances as good as their undoubted talent.
4. Vincent Kompany
The old stalwart of the Manchester City defence has had something of an off time for club and country over the past year or so, but good early performances have shown that he might well have shaken off his bad form. With Belgium possessing highly-talented attacking players, they’ll need Kompany to be at his best both in terms of defending and his leadership if they’re to become the contenders they could be. Sad to say but it must be said, there was a time when this site was without doubt the no.1 city site going…. Unfortunately the “lack of match coverage” since the turn of the year has being deplorable, signing off (
