MAN CITY 1 – 0 Dynamo Kyiv – PLAYER RATINGS

18 Mar

Hart - Made a couple of early stops low down, but wasn’t tested a great deal. Flapped at one cross in the second half which could have cost us and must work on his distribution. Preferred to faff around at the back rather than boot it upfield towards the end - 6

Richards - Very impressive. At his rampaging best from the start, offering us pace and width down the right. Defensively fine, but could have done better with a header from a corner early in the second half. But with Fabio Capello watching, did himself no harm - 7.5

Kompany - Until the late stages, Dynamo didn’t threaten too much so it wasn’t the toughest game for Vincent. Kept Shevchenko quiet for the most part - 7

Lescott - Like his central defensive partner, he wasn’t called into action a great deal, although he did make one great clearing header off the line - 7

Kolarov - One of his best game for City. His delivery from set-pieces was better than in recent matches, and whilst his free-kick wasn’t the sweetest, he offered us plenty of width on the left. Coped defensively, which is an improvement, but must now continue like this - 7.5

De Jong - Was out on his feet by the end, having worked his socks off for 90 minutes. Broke up play well in the first half and started our attacks but faded in the second half - 7

Barry - Improved as the game went on after a shaky start. Passing was all over the place in the first half but he got his act together later. Will need to put in another shift against Chelsea - 6

Y. Touré - His performance in the first 45 minutes was nothing short of abysmal, but thankfully he picked up in the second period. With more space in midfield, he was able to open his legs more and run at the Dynamo defence. But contributed nothing in the first half - 5

Silva - Was forced to drop deep early on to pick up the ball but as soon as he found pockets of space, he was dangerous. Lovely link up play at times with Tévez and Balotelli, but needs to work on his right foot, as he could have scored in the second half. Went off injured towards the end: if it serious, that’s our hope of Champions League football gone - 7.5

Balotelli - Consistently unpredictable. For 35 minutes, he was having a very impressive game, looking sharp and despite his early miss, I’d have backed him for a goal. But then comes his moment of madness. He let himself, the players and the fans down and possibly cost us the game. But I wouldn’t put it past him to score the winner against Chelsea - 4.5

Tévez - Looked to be carrying a bit of timber which wasn’t great to see, but then produced his best showing in a while. He must have tracked back the length of the pitch at least four times, although after Balotelli’s dismissal, he was a touch isolated up front until Džeko came on. Needs to rediscover his goalscoring form quickly, but this was promising - 8

Subs

A. Johnson - Fantastic to see him return and the ovation he received shows just how highly the fans rate him. Not at his sharpest but caused a few problems - 6

Džeko - Did well when he came on. Won his headers and nearly conjured up a dramatic goal in injury time - 7

Milner - A few neat touches but no real time to make an impact. Good to see him back - No time to mark

Agree with all of this for once – like the end of Silva’s bit too! We are no Tevez team, we are a Silva team
