Wigan 0 – 2 MAN CITY – TEVEZ Produces The Goods As CITY Ease Home

20 Sep

‘Good against the better sides, poor against the weaker ones’ was a phrase often uttered last season, as City delivered their best performances when faced with a higher quality of opposition. We came unstuck against teams such as Fulham, Burnley and Hull, sides which, with all due respect, we should be defeating comfortably. This season, despite a loss away to Sunderland and a home draw with Blackburn, the Blues look as if they are on their way to eradicating that weakness, seeing off a mercurial Wigan side with ease.

A scoreline of 2-0 does justice to what, by all accounts, was a comfortable victory. Unfortunately, other commitments meant that I was unable to see the game, so therefore I don’t intend to do any sort of match report or player ratings, but it seems as if our captain finally produced the goods this season. Carlos Tévez scored one, albeit with a rather large amount of help from a static Wigan defence, before laying on the second for Yaya Touré, who notched his first goal for the Blues.

So, on the back of a pair of comfortable victories in the Europa League and then the Premier League, my good friend Roberto Mancini’s attention turns towards the Carling Cup and a visit to the Hawthorns to face West Brom. This is one cup which many City fans believes we can win this year, so although the manager is bound to make changes, perhaps handing starts to Dedryck Boyata and Jo to name but two, expect to see a City side with still enough quality to progress in this competition.

A good win for us away from home at a difficult ground, and in awful conditions. I’m glad Tevez got another goal and I’m glad Silva started, although I miss Johnson whenever he doesn’t play and I’m sure the team does too. I still don’t understand what Jo is doing in a City shirt still though!
