Hart - Unable to prevent either goal as his view was obscured by Kompany for the first strike and then Clichy for the second. Was otherwise untroubled - 6
Zabaleta - A constant threat down the right as he offered a wide outlet throughout the game. Completely nullified any danger from Rodriguez - 7
Kompany - Watched City’s dominance for large periods but looked shaky when the visitors broke on the counter-attack - 6
Lescott - Very similar to Kompany in the sense he was able to observe the game for the majority of it but seemed unsure of himself when faced with a Southampton threat - 6
Clichy - Was a willing runner on the left but couldn’t quite pick out the final ball. Should arguably have scored following Yaya’s pass but still searching for full match fitness - 6
Rodwell - A neat enough debut with a few promising signs as he covered in front of the defence. Retained the ball well and kept possession ticking over - 7
Y. Touré - Saw plenty of the ball but lacked urgency until we went behind. Produced a number of deft touches in and around the box, most notably his guided pass to Clichy and was a prominent, if not incisive, figure - 7
Nasri - My man of the match. Seemed to do grab the initiative and make it his role to inject some penetration into the side. With Silva off the boil, he took the responsibility to create and produced a delightful assist for Tévez’s opener before securing the three points with his volley - 8
Silva - Someway off his best which is thoroughly understandable as he had only played fifteen minutes of pre-season before this fixture. A woeful penalty but whilst not too many of his flicks and throughballs came off, at least he was always looking to be involved - 6
Tévez - Looks fitter than ever after his first full pre-season in five years. Worked tirelessly throughout and his goal was a cute finish. If Aguero is sidelined for any length of time, the onus will be on him, more than ever, to produce the goods - 7.5
Aguero - Stretchered off early on after a heavy, but fair, challenge. The medical staff were reported to have said the injury wasn’t as bad as first feared and Aguero himself tweeted last night that is was a heavy blow to the knee rather than anything more serioues but details shall only be known following an MRI scan - No time to mark
Subs
Džeko – Showed occasional flashes of his hold-up play but the game seemed to drift by him at times. Scored the equaliser but will have to improve - 6
Balotelli - Should have scored with his first touch only to put his shot into the side netting. Worked hard in his twenty minutes, closing down defenders and tracking back - 6
Kolarov - Won a couple of defensive headers - No time to mark
As much as I like David Silva, he was way off, 4 is the best he can get.
