Bolton 2 – 3 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS

22 Aug

Hart - Dealt with Bolton’s aerial bombardment very well on the whole, controlling his penalty area with authority. Couldn’t have done much for either goal - 6

Richards - Had a good contest with Petrov but gave him too much space on the left, allowing the winger to put in some dangerous crosses. Was aware of Petrov’s lightning pace in behind him so didn’t get forward as much as possible - 6

Kompany - A battle and a half with Kevin Davies, who is allowed to get away with murder! Plenty of shirt-pulling from the Bolton striker that went unnoticed, but Kompany was impressive in the air. Positioned well, too, when crosses came into the box - 7

Lescott - Very similar to Kompany in terms of his battle with Davies, but handled him well on the whole. Will be one of his toughest games this season - 7

Kolarov - Repeatedly out of position, but did provide width on the left. Favoured ahead of Clichy for his extra height, but I’d like to see the former Arsenal man return for the Spurs game - 6

Barry - One of, if not the, best performances he’s produced in a Blue shirt. Covered most areas on the pitch, winning tackles, using the ball well and really stepping upto the mark in Nigel De Jong’s absence. More of the same please, Gareth - 8.5

Milner - My man of the match. Seriously impressive display from Milner, covering every blade of grass, linking up well with the likes of Silva and Aguero, helping back defensively and showing just what a good player he is. Will be tough to drop him after that - 9

Y. Touré - Adopted the holding midfield role with De Jong missing, and he’s a completely different type of defensive player. Whereas NDJ gives us bite and tough tackling, Yaya is much more laid back, hardly putting in a tackle all game. But what he is is an imposing physical presence who makes life tough for the opposition. I’d still love to see more from him, though - 6

Silva - His second half showing was different class. Absolutely ran the game with his control and dribbling ability. I thought he was strangely off colour in the first half, and his end product was noticeably lacking (despite the goal) but really improved after the break - 8

Aguero - Clearly not fully match fit but some neat touches, especially in the first half. Should have scored a couple but then faded. Will obviously improve his fitness and then he should be a threat for the 90 minutes - 6.5

Džeko - Keeps improving with every game. Edin is a perfect example of a confidence striker. As soon as he’s got a couple of goals under his belt, he’s started to display the touch, pace, vision and power that stood out at his previous clubs. Now got three in three and looks the real deal  - 8.5

Subs

Tévez - Got a good reception from the wonderful travelling City fans, but understandably looked short of match fitness. Doesn’t really suit the quick, free flowing football that we are now playing - 6

A. Johnson - One tricky run down the right but had little time to make an impact - 6

Zabaleta - Last minute sub - No time to mark

Good ratings, except that Kolorov played so well, i cannot remember once that Bolton got around him and his early balls into the box contantly cause problems. I too hope that clichy starts next week because he will be able to handle the pace of lennon and Bale more effectivly

well balanced comments as opposed to the initial after match hyperbole although most of the marks were a little high. I agree that Milner was superb, but I also thought little David had as bad a first half as I’ve seen him from with many misplaced passes. We were never comfortable in defence and this is not a good Bolton side, missing their best midfielder and any depth at all. Just a final word about Yaya. It was Christmas last year before he first broke sweat. I do hope he isn’t allowed to saunter around looking disinterested and unfit for as long this season.

Lescott does not deserve a 7 as he was the one beaten for both goals. It makes you wonder what Yaya has done wrong to get a 6 while the goofball Lescott gets a 7 esp after he was beaten for both goals.

Milner was awesome and he deserves to be in starting line-up. I think Kolarov had his best game but I prefer Clichy for Spurs game as he is no match for Lennon’s pace.
