QPR 2 – 3 Man City – PLAYER RATINGS

6 Nov

Hart - Couldn’t have done anything for either goal. Made one superb stop from Barton at the start of the second half and produced a wonderful double save to deny QPR, although offside meant it wouldn’t have counted anyway. Distribution poor - 7

Richards - Struggled to limit the threat of SWP at times although he always allowed the winger to move infield towards the packed City defence. Couldn’t get forward enough to influence the play - 6

Savic - A really tough game for the youngster. Had shown promise and composure in midweek against Villarreal, but the experience and aerial ability of Bothroyd and Helguson made life very difficult for him. Often tries to win the ball when he should stand off and wait - 5

Lescott - Solid enough but needed to become a leader at the back in Kompany’s absence and didn’t step up to the mark. Needed to organise us at set pieces when we became vulnerable, but did well in the ten minutes when we were under pressure - 6

Kolarov - Superb cross for Yaya Touré’s goal and the difference in his delivery was marked. Usually blasts the ball across the box at a ridiculous pace, making it impossible for our strikers to get on the end of it, but took his time yesterday, picked out a man and it worked. Troubled defensively by Mackie  - 6.5

Barry - Was always available to receive the ball and tried to keep us ticking over, but we were a touch overran in midfield. Forced to protect the back four with De Jong sitting this one out, so couldn’t influence play further forward - 6.5

Y. Touré - Superb header to secure the points but again it was a very average showing. Couldn’t get a grip in midfield and his workrate was depressingly poor. Didn’t offer cover to our defence and didn’t have any impact going forward apart from his header - 6.5

Milner - Busy. Worked his socks off and did well in tracking back down the right to help Richards deal with SWP. Marvellous pass to release Dzeko for our first goal and was always trying to drive us on - 7

Silva - Struggled to find his touch in the opening half hour or so, but once he got a foothold in the game, he was in complete control. Some delightful pieces of individual skill, none more so than the majestic shimmy to score his goal - 7.5

Aguero - Worked tirelessly and was our main attacking threat in the first half. His movement created space for others but tired early and was replaced - 7

Džeko - When he’s bad, he’s terrible, but when he’s confident and scoring goals, he looks a top player. Took his strike very well, showing great composure and a clinical finish. Linked up well with others - 7.5

Subs

A. Johnson - Second substitute appearance on the trot when he contributed nothing. Lost the ball once down the right and was suspect when tracking back - 5

Balotelli - Picked up a booking for a ridiculous dive but did his defensive job well, helping Kolarov on the left - 6

K. Touré - Only came on for the final few moments - No time to mark

Yaya was by far our best player. Open your eyes.

If you want Yaya to get a fair score unless it was glaringly obvious then this is not the blog to read. Whilst I do prefer him in a more advanced role, he still does a cracking job playing as a defensive midfielder. He definitely was the one who snapped us out of our malaise in the first half and also managed to get up the other end and get the winner. The man played a stormer in midweek and then more than did his share yesterday and this guy pretty much calls him a lazy git. I despair at some City fans, I really do.

Kompany should never be allowed to get a red card! . Savic was really poor and it keeps me wondering why we did not keep Boyata instead of shipping him to Bolton. He is tall, strong and basically he has all qualities of becoming a commanding CB. Our defense was terrible with none to be able to step in as leader and shore things up. The prospect of having Kompany on the side for a few games with no one to fill his shoes is frightening!. However; on the bright side and we all 3 points so I tend to take this as a bad day in the office in which we managed to bag 3 points!

I think the criticism of Savic has been harsh. Not just from this article but from every where. I wouldnt say he had a bad game but a tough game. Richards didnt help him down the right and often had to come out of position to cover Richards. I think the experience will have done him good but I would rather see him partnering Kompany when he gets a game.

    I agree with Bobby Manc.

Micah has been in great form up to Saturday but he contributed nothing in attack and was always out of position defensively. Milner did a lot of covering for him but Stefan was pulled out of position because of the missing Micah time and time again. I was not surprised at all that Micah missed the England squad. Capello will have seen nothing to convince him that Micah has improved.

A little harsh on Micah, I thought he did a good job of preventing SWP from being overly productive in a game that you know SWP will be pumped up for. With a speedy winger it is tougher for Micah to get up the field because he can’t catch SWP getting back, like he can against most all other wingers. And yes we need Kompany back there holding our defense together
