MAN CITY 2 – 0 Bayern Munich – PLAYER RATINGS

8 Dec

Hart - Forced into a couple of decent stops low down, but with Bayern resting their first team, they sat back and therefore Hart wasn’t called into action too often. Will be delighted to finally record a clean sheet. Distribution and handling good - 7

Savic - Got the nod over Kolo Touré and Onuoha for the right-back slot and did fairly well. Very raw and rugged but considering he rarely plays in this position, he managed to get forward well, adding width down the right. Strong in the air though does have the tendency to lunge into tackles - 7

Kompany - Looked a touch nervy early on with a couple of rash clearances but settled down soon after. Not his most demanding of evenings but will take heart from the fact we kept a clean sheet- 7

Lescott – Similar to Kompany. Bayern didn’t pose too much threat going forward but when they did, Lescott looked assured at the back, making a couple of important blocks. Had a goal disallowed - 7

Clichy – Another strong performance which makes it all the more bizarre that Kolarov was favoured away at Napoli in the crucial game. Defensively solid and bombed forward at every opportunity - 7

Barry – Rarely gets the plaudits but crucial in providing the midfield balance. Continued his excellent form with a top display, winning tackles, keeping possession and limiting Bayern’s counter-attacking potential - 7.5

Y. Touré - Took his goal impressively and finishes the campaign as our top scorer in the Champions League but he wasn’t anywhere near his best. Passing was insipid, laboured and very much lacking in intent. Never needed to exert himself too much, but he’s generally a big-game player and should have done more last night - 6.5

Nasri - Delighted to see him look as sharp as he has done since joining City. This was his fourth game in quick succession and he’s starting to show the form which he displayed at Arsenal. Always wanting to be involved, ran with the ball well and his passing was crisp - 8

Silva – Started slowly as we found it incredibly tough to get him on the ball, but provided a moment of brilliance to open up the scoring. His shooting hasn’t been his forte recently, but this was a superb strike. Thereafter, became more involved and started to dictate the tempo – 7.5

Aguero - Ran the channels excellently all night, constantly dragging the Bayern centre-backs away from the middle. Went close a couple of times and is starting to look fitter. His link-up play with those around him is top notch - 8

Džeko - Worked tirelessly for the team and was a valuable long-ball option. Some of his chest control was exquisite and his hold-up play was again wonderful. Starting to regain his confidence after a lean month or so and looks a threat - 8

Subs

De Jong – Brought on to protect the lead and did just that - No time to mark

Balotelli - Some deft touches in his brief appearance - No time to mark

A. Johnson – Should have done better with one shot which he skewed across goal - No time to mark

Yaya was absolutely WOEFUL…cant believe he got 6.5!

Nasri was brilliant again, findign hsi feet in this team, pleased for Dzeko too

Yaya was not woeful. Laboured in the first half but i think he picked up and ran for miles in the second. I was chuffed with savic in clichy at the back. I just worry about lescott with the ball at his feet

They say the sign of a good team is it can squeeze results more often than not when it is playing bad. The same applies to a player. So for Yaya WOEFUL or FANTASTIC he delivers more often than not and those deliveries are not just normal ones either they get you the game or they make history!

Savic was very solid at right back and I am afraid Mancini is going to get this one wrong as he did for Boateng. He was great CB and was played as RB and Savic seems like a great RB and will be played as CB majority of times

This is the first time that i have to completely disagree with you in regards to ratings. Barry has had a good few positive displays recent;y, and while he did not have a howler by any means i felt that the game was beyond a man of his limited pace. As for Dzecko, i have simply no idea why he is being rated so highly from this display, he was simply captain average!!!!, whilst bringing back horrible memories of Jo.
Saying that this was an impressive display by Aguero, who i have not been too big on before. He wanted to be involved and showed his skill on the ball and the threat he brings to defenders multiple times.

I think you have gone a bit too far to compare Jo with Dezko. Jo was a creature with no hope whatsoever. A corpse on the pitch would have contributed more by allowing the possibility that one of the opposing players may trip over him and lose the ball.

On the other hand, I think Dezko was fantastic. His passing [two assists] and his hold-up game was excellent

comparing dzeko to Jo is just beyond ridiculous imo

Please, can someone point out to me in the future when Yaya has a good game. It must be just me that sees him as a lumbering oaf that doesn’t do a lot. Unfortunately, he will go down as a City legend for scoring just 2 goals.

Savic did impress me. He seemed to start off a bit shakily to me but grew well into the game.

    Silva, need I say anything?

What kind of clown comes on here spouting nonsense like that, this a forum for City fans and to be needlessly aggressive like that is just plain silly. City fans know how lucky they are to have had such investment in recent times, and Mansour’s generosity is well appreciated beause for a long time no one else gave a dam about this club. So excuse if we don’t care about your negativity.
