MAN CITY February Player of the Month – Vote Here!
1 Mar
February was a superb month for the Blues, recovering well from Janaury’s struggles to record five wins from five games, scoring thirteen goals in the process and conceding just one. Here, I take a look at some of the individuals to stand out from the past month and then you can vote for your February player of the month at the end.
Vincent Kompany: Having sat out the first fixture of the month against Fulham, he then returned to add solidity to our backline. A commanding and authoritative presence in defence, he was hugely impressive away to Porto, nullifying the considerable threat of Hulk with his perfect positioning and ability to read the game. My average rating over the past month for Kompany was 7.125.
Joleon Lescott: Continued his excellent form this season with another outstanding month. Scored a crucial winner against Aston Villa to secure a vital three points, whilst also limiting the impact of Robbie Keane and Darren Bent in that game. Stepped up a notch in both legs against Porto, showing a great turn of pace on occasions and forming a very solid partnership with Kompany. Helped Joe Hart to keep four clean sheets from five games. My average rating over the past month for Lescott was 7.6.
Nigel De Jong: After being sidelined by the superb form of Gareth Barry and Yaya Touré this campaign, February was a breakthrough month for our midfield enforcer. Handed an opportunity by Yaya’s departure to the African Cup of Nations, he bounced back into form with a string of impressive displays. His tackling was back to its dominant best and he provided great cover in shielding our defence. My average rating over the past month for De Jong was 7.375.
Yaya Touré: A slightly controversial selection, seeing as he missed two of the five matches in February due to his participation for Ivory Coast, but he made such an impact on his return that I feel his inclusion is merited. Added an extra dimension away at Porto, where his pace and power surging from midfield terrified the opposition and he created Sergio Aguero’s crucial late winner. My average rating over the past month for Yaya was 7.8.
David Silva: The form of our midfield maestro had dipped slightly in January, but he was back to somewhere near his sensational best last month. Able to control the tempo of games with his passing and fluidity of movement, he was terrific in the second leg against Porto and also the home victory over Blackburn. Looks to have found his best as we head towards the end of the season and he will be absolutely key in our bid to win the Premier League. My average rating over the past month for Silva was 7.6.
Sergio Aguero: Rediscovered his goalscoring form and impressed all with a series of first class displays. His workrate throughout was marvelous, constantly pressuring defences into making his mistakes and linked up superbly with those around him. He really stood out in the home games with Fulham and Porto and looked fresher than he did during January. My average rating over the past month for Aguero was 7.6.
So there are the main contenders this month. Yaya Toure topped my averages, though having only played three out of five, I would not award him player of the month. Although Lescott, Silva and Aguero are all level, my personal vote would go to Joleon Lescott. But enough of me! Who would you vote for?
ABSOLUTELY FARCICAL THAT JOE HART IS NOT IN THIS, I REFUSE TO VOTE NOW
aguero n silva are the best in the PL
My vote goes to Yaya, though I got really tempted to vote for Lescott. He has upped his game really well. It is hard to imagine what a goof-ball he was last season
Has to be LESCOTT, by miles, ya-ya was away for most of the month ? Great to have him back ! CTID …
Defence wins you titles guys….Joleon Lescott was up to it even without VK. He was superb this month.
