Swansea 1 – 0 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS

12 Mar

Hart - Produced a superb save to deny Scott Sinclair from the penalty spot but was otherwise untested. Couldn’t have done anything for the goal - 7

Richards - Struggled all afternoon against the pace, trickery and dribbling ability of Sinclair, only managing to get forward sporadically. Partially culpable for the goal, getting drawn in under the flight of the ball and leaving Moore free to head home - 6

Savic - Until a slightly underhit pass to Yaya Touré, he was very comfortable. Has been troubled in the past by physical strikers, but seemed more suited to defending against Swansea’s slicker style of play - 6

K. Touré - Handed the captain’s armband in the absence of Kompany and stepped up to the mark. Used his experience throughout and was a fairly authoritative presence in defence. Went close with one long-range effort - 7

Clichy - A decent afternoon, both defensively and in attack, but didn’t quite have the quality in the final third. Stuck tight to Routledge for the most part, denying him space and managed to offer us an option down our left - 6.5

De Jong - Tried as hard as he could to break up Swansea’s passing style but couldn’t get a foothold in the game for the opening half hour. Improved after the break and we began to control possession, but still nowhere near the De Jong of last season - 6

Barry - Understandable that he was annoyed at being replaced so early, but his impact up until that point had been minimal. Couldn’t get near Swansea’s midfielders as they passed their way around him, so was completely unable to stamp his mark on the midfield battle - 5

Y. Touré - Started just behind Balotelli but with Barry and De Jong being outnumbered and outplayed in midfield, he was forced to drop a touch deeper. Following Aguero’s introduction, he operated from his usual role and began to influence proceedings more in the second half but his passing, much like the rest of the team’s, was far too slow and lacking in incisiveness - 6

Nasri - Another bitterly disappointing performance from Nasri, who has yet to impress on a consistent basis. Shirked a number of tackles, didn’t track back enough and when in possession, he was laboured, lethargic and wasteful - 5

Silva - Possibly his worst game in a City shirt. His end product was unusually lacking, he seemed bereft of ideas in the final third and his shooting was wayward. We know just how exceptional he can be, so it’s frustrating to see him below his best - 5

Balotelli - Isolated for much of the first half, he tried his best to pressure the opposition defence but was grateful in the second half for the support of Aguero. Went close on a couple of occasions and could have been awarded a penalty when his legs were clipped, but this wasn’t his day - 6

Subs

Aguero - Worryingly off-form in the past couple of games and looks totally jaded. Struggled to trouble Swansea’s backline and wasted his one half-chance - 5

A. Johnson - Brought on immediately after the goal but had no time to make an impact - No time to mark

Dzeko - A last throw of the dice from Mancini - No time to mark

Accurate for once ;) i like how you didnt slate Savic – yes he gave the ball away, but he gave ti away on the half-way line and by the time the ball was crossed we had 6 or 7 back, and Richards was the one who misjudged the header

I do like Savic and think he has heaps of potential. Given that he was far from the only person to under hit a pass yesterday and, as GCIMY!!! points out, it was on the half way line and we did manage to get plenty of men behind the ball before the ball finally went into the net.

Dzecko pack your bags please and leave this football club…..Savic, are you serious, alright i’m biased against the guy for his shocker of a performance against Spurs….But anytime he was near the ball he looked terrified and then at the end we all know what happened. Kolo Toure thank you for stepping up to the mark and reminding us of your class, as opposed to your ex gunner mate Nasri who has proven himself to be a ridiculous luxury buy and a bit part player at a club with proper direction.
Also feel that on current form Johnson should have started but when he comes on late its like raising a big white flag to the opponents……Anyone catch the blatant West Brom peno that was turned down at Old Trafford….Just saying.

Your name says it all pal!
      Bring back Bedlamy indeed!!
Fans with pre-conceved opinions tend to see what they are looking for.
Savic had a decent game and should be judged on that not what happened on an off day weeks ago.
Why does bringing on Johnson late in the game waive a big white flag? From what I’ve seen of him he has more impact late in the game than when he starts and disappears by half time. He has ability, a great left foot and has improved all round this season but the same can be said for Nasri and without knowing he was going to have a stinker in advance he probably looked a better bet than Jonners at 12 noon!
