Arsenal v MAN CITY – The PREVIEW: City’s Probable Team

12 Jan

Aleks Kolarov is back in contention after recovering from injury, but Maicon and Micah Richards are both still sidelined. Kolo and Yaya Touré are away with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, so the only real defensive dilemma for Roberto Mancini is whether Joleon Lescott or Matija Nastasic partners Vincent Kompany. I’d expect the latter to get the nod for his extra pace and mobility.

Paddy Power are offering new customers a FREE £25 bet! They have plenty of specials for City’s fixture against Arsenal, with Carlos Tévez to score first and the final result to be 1-1 hugely tempting at 28/1. Vincent Kompany to score the first goal is 33/1. Click here to open an account and claim your FREE £25 bet!

With Samir Nasri still suspended, and Jack Rodwell injured, Javi Garcia ought to continue in central midfield. Mario Balotelli scored twice for the U21 side and has the lightning speed to trouble Arsenal’s backline, but Mancini is likely to continue with the front pairing of Carlos Tévez and Edin Dzeko.

Here is the side Mancini could select:

Referee: Mike Dean – He was in charge when Arsenal visited the Etihad earlier this season, and was also the man in the middle when City recently defeated Reading 1-0 thanks to Gareth Barry’s injury-time winner.

Prediction: Arsenal 11 MAN CITY – This fixture is known for its lack of goals and with the Blues missing some key players, Mancini may opt for a slightly more defensive style than usual. Goals to be scored by Olivier Giroud and James Milner.

William Hill have some excellent odds for this match: Javi Garcia, such a threat from set-pieces, is 17/1 to score the first goal, whilst it is a hugely tempting 15/2 that the final score will be 1-1.

i think at best we might hope to steal a result at the emirates, as we never play well there and we have injuries also. I think if the gap to united doesnt grow this weekend then we should be happy, anything more than that and we will be dancing on the ceiling i reckon

Arsenal has a very mobile mid-field. I would prefer to have Milner – Barry pairing at DM and then Sinclair on the wing and have Garcia on the bench for this game.

Much like NewCastle game, city should start to play high up the pitch from the start.

Why Sinclair? A player who has hardly featured and when he has, been poor to be kind. And you want to start him in a season defining match at the Emirates? Wow…

        I agree

I do not see how Garcia has been better either, sluggish, terrible passing, etc in the majority of games he has played

The team selection is what I would pick, and we should expect to nic it with a single goal. Stretford will go down to the dippers 0-2.
