MAN CITY v Barnsley – The PREVIEW: City’s Probable Team

8 Mar

Maicon is still absent through injury, as is Micah Richards, whilst Vincent Kompany is likely to sit this encounter out as a precaution. That means Kolo Toure and Matija Nastasic should continue their formidable central defensive partnership, with Aleks Kolarov hoping to replace Gael Clichy at left-back.

In midfield, Jack Rodwell is sidelined with the hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa, while Gareth Barry will be desperate to reclaim his place and feature ahead of Javi Garcia. Samir Nasri is a candidate to be given a starting berth, whilst it would be a surprise if Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez were not named up front together.

Paddy Power are offering new customers a FREE £25 bet! They have plenty of specials for City’s fixture against Barnsley, with Samir Nasri a teasing 7/1 to score the last goal of the game. Matija Nastasic to score the first goal and City to win 3-0 is hugely tempting at 100/1. Click here to open an account and claim your FREE £25 bet!

Here is the side Mancini could select:

Manchester City 4-2-2-2 football formation

Referee: Anthony Taylor

Prediction: MAN CITY 3 – 0 Barnsley – The visitors will no doubt try to make life tough for the Blues initially but our quality should prevail. Goals to be scored by Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and David Silva.

William Hill have some excellent odds for this match: Kolo Toure is 34/1 to open the scoring whilst Yaya Toure to score first and City to win 5-1 is also tempting at 76/1. Bet here now!

I remember our last game against Barnsley in the FA Cup vividly. I was stood on the Kippax next to the away fans who all seemed to be archetypal Yorkshire men who’d had a load of booze which created a great atmosphere. There were also a load in the North Stand so probably about 7k in total. One weird thing (apart from Ricky Holden in a City shirt) was when the teams came out and I saw the Main Stand rise to applaud the team I felt absolutely certain we would win. Never had that feeling before or since.

Of course, all went to rat shit in the next round on an uncomfortably packed Kippax v Spurs. Strange thing is I was sure we’d win the Cup that year. Back then, being at school and not having won anything for years it meant so much to beat Spurs so the feeling afterwards was worse than going down at Stoke Ono the third tier for me! Now I (wrongly) take it as almost a non event if we reach the semi finals!

Anyway two nil City with both goals in second half from Dzeko.
