West Ham 0 – 3 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS

22 Jan

Pantilimon - A couple of comfortable takes from crosses which he makes look very easy and a save or two to keep him interested but he wasn’t tested too frequently - 6

Boyata - Out of position and unable to contribute anything going forward but at least he wasn’t as poor defensively as in the FA Cup against Blackburn - 6

Lescott- Captain for the night and he gave a leader’s performance. Dominant with his head against the first-half aerial onslaught, he organised the defence and was there to clear, tackle and block his way to a clean sheet. His all-round game is limited but what he does, he does very well - 8.5

Nastasic – The odd iffy moment but generally displayed a willingness to contest, and win, the long ball. With Pellegrini not particularly fancying Lescott, he faces a two-way battle with Demichelis for a place in the first-choice starting eleven - 7

Clichy - His boundless energy and bursts down the left were a feature of our play for much of the game. Helped to create the first and was a constant outlet out wide - 8

Garcia – A good positional sense meant that he was able to nip in and win a couple of tackles in the middle. Moved the ball efficiently in another decent display - 7

Fernandinho - The engine of the side. Skilful, committed, eager and can run all day. He was assured in possession, technically confident and was a non-stop runner when we were on the attack - 8

Navas - Received the ball in some promising positions but his end product was lacking and he wasted a few opportunities to deliver quality into the box - 6

Lopes - This match offered a tantalising glimpse into his potential. All the characteristics he has displayed for the youth teams were in evidence last night: tenacity, workrate, feistiness, a good touch and a blistering change of pace. His delivery for Negredo’s opener was perfect and his trickery and quick feet created the second - 8

Aguero - Took his goal superbly, dinking it over the ‘keeper from close range. Worked very hard to create space for himself and his pace clearly frightened West Ham’s backline but he couldn’t always find that killer throughball or shot on goal - 7

Negredo - If Aguero’s goal was sublime, then his was on another level. It’s staggering how he managed to lift the ball into the net from such a tight angle, but it is testament to his desire and drive, not to mention his under-appreciated technical quality, that he did. Let’s just hope his shoulder injury isn’t too serious as he has quickly established himself as the powerhouse of this City attack  - 7

Subs

Rodwell - Great to see him back and there were a couple of trademark bursts into the box - 6

Jovetic - Greeted by chants from the travelling City supporters of “who the f***ing hell are you?” but we were all thrilled to see him make an appearance after all his injury troubles. A few pretty touches and flicks were on show, and he should manage a few more minutes against Watford at the weekend - 6

Kolarov – Broke forward eagerly, as ever - 6
