Costel Pantilimon is expected to start in goal ahead of Joe Hart. Having featured in all but one of the Capital One Cup ties so far this season, the Romanian is likely to benefit from the more personal man-management skills and loyalty of Manuel Pellegrini, unlike last year’s ruthless demotion to the bench courtesy of Roberto Mancini in the FA Cup final. Equally, Joleon Lescott has played every single minute of the cup run so far and he is set to fight off competition from Martin Demichelis for a starting berth.
Sergio Aguero has trained fully for the past three days and is a possible starter. Pellegrini may wish to give the striker an hour’s run out as he looks to secure match fitness ahead of the Champions League encounter with Barcelona, but equally, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko line-up together, with Aguero introduced from the bench.

To that extent, I expect a vibrant, passionate City display with goals to be scored by Alvaro Negredo, Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and a consolation for Steven Fletcher.

City will cruise to a win, providing we treat Sunderland with no respect. Yaya will win it for us because he is a proven big game performer. Lescott is poor, I would not pick him.
