It’s that time of the season again. The time when Everton visit and we resign ourselves to another defeat. For whatever reason, they are our bogey team, the side against whom we continually struggle. Season after season, year after year, they beat us. A solitary victory at Goodison Park a couple of season ago is all we have in recent times to show against them. But is it time to break the mould?

We’d like to think so. It goes without saying that our squad is better than any in previous years, a group of players capable of competing with anyone. All bases, whether pretty football or phyiscal challenges, are covered so it’s about time we defeated the Toffees.

Roberto Mancini faces a tricky selection dilemma with the Champions League trip to face Bayern Munich coming just three days after this fixture. Joe Hart will return in place of the nervy Costel Pantilimon, whilst other certainties to regain their place are Vincent Kompany, Joleon ‘J-Lo’ Lescott, David Silva and Sergio Aguero. As has been wont so far this season, Mancini might change the fullbacks, and considering Everton’s aerial threat, I’d imagine Micah Richards will play.

With Nigel De Jong still out – but expected to be back for the Bayern game – Yaya Touré and Gareth Barry could return to midfield, although James Milner, after his cameo against Birmingham, is also vying for a place. Owen Hargreaves might possibly be on the bench after impressing on his debut, whilst Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri will hope to start.

Everton shouldn’t beat us every year. They’re a hardworking side full of capable professionals, but nothing more than that. They don’t have a recognised striker, as Louis Saha is out of favour, making do instead with Tim Cahill playing further forward. He’s one player who continually troubles us and has opened the scoring in three out of the past four meetings between the sides. Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin always seem to raise their game when facing us, Tim Howard invariably has a blinder and Moyes gets into a scrap with someone. Such is life.

Referee: Howard Webb – Arguably the best referee in the world. Everton will no doubt turn it into a physical contest, so Webb wil have be on top of the action.

Prediction: MAN CITY 1 – 0 Everton – Why I’m predicting a City win, I haven’t a clue. But  it’s about time we recorded a sweet victory over the Toffees and something tells me it’s going to be this game. The goal to be scored by Sergio Aguero.
